Derek Chisora Wins Heavyweight World Title Eliminator Against Otto Wallin

Derek Chisora vs. Otto Wallin Fight Recap

In the early rounds, Chisora pressed forward and occasionally landed wild punches. Wallin stuck to moving backwards and maintaining a tight guard, occasionally countering. Due to their respective approaches, there was a fair amount of smothering between the two along the ropes.

As the fight progressed, Wallin started to move laterally a lot more. However, he still struggled to avoid getting hit by Chisora. Wallin also was simply not throwing and landing enough to win rounds. By the end of round five, there were two cuts under each eye of Chisora, caused by an accidental clash of heads. A ringside physician examined the cut in the sixth but allowed the bout to continue.

Chisora continued roughing up his opponent and it was becoming more and more evident that Wallin had little in response. A barrage of swinging punches in round eight from the Brit nearly ended the fight. In the ninth, an overhand right sent Wallin down for the first time in the contest.

With Chisora visibly exhausted as the fight neared the end, there was little being thrown by either fighter. An overhand right with less than 20 seconds remaining sent Wallin down for a second time in the bout. Though he got up, it was too late for the Swede as he would go on to lose via unanimous decision.
