Froch came into the fight, having lost to Andre Ward in the final of the Super Six World Boxing Classic tournament. The WBC, WBA and vacant The Ring super middleweight titles were also on the line. Bute was undefeated and came into the fight having defeated a fading Glen Johnson.

There was no doubt the bookies got it wrong, there was no doubt who the better fighter was as “The Cobra” dazzled with fast combinations. The Nottingham native applied the pressure early on, not allowing his opponent to catch his breath. Bute looked to be settling down in the fourth before Froch landed a heavy shot late in the round.
