Rematches We Need to See – Which Fights Deserve a Second Chapter?
Rematches We Need to See – Which Fights Deserve a Second Chapter?
Ever watched a boxing match and enjoyed the contest so much that you wished the two fighters organized a rematch? Join the extremely long line, as fans the world over will have a long list of boxing rematches they’d like to see.
Perhaps a fight went the distance, and just a few points split them, maybe the action was hell and thunder from start to finish. Alternatively, there could have been controversy that left a bad taste in the mouth.
We know you all have your own opinion on which fights should be witnessed for a second time, but below we’ll show you which sit at the top of our wishlist.
Boxing Rematches: Four Potential Bouts
Boxing Rematches: Canelo Alvarez vs. Dmitry Bivol II
Shocks happen, but not as big as this one. Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol went at it in 2022 in a light heavyweight contest that caused one of the biggest shocks in recent history.
Everyone had Alvarez down to win, and why wouldn’t they? He had won over 30 fights and lost just the one prior, to a certain Floyd Mayweather Jr. He’s also held multiple belts in four different weight classes. Put it this way, if you’d checked the odds on the following best boxing betting sites or online options for boxing, he’d have been the strong favourite.
Nobody sent the script to Bivol, however. He went on to win on points in an uninspiring fight. Some felt that Canelo underestimated his opponent, but it’s certainly a reminder for him that no fighter can just walk through every weight class unchecked.
Why a rematch? Canelo was not at his ideal weight class, and perhaps there was a hint that he was complacent. He has expressed an interest in a rematch, so it’s all on Bivol to decide if he wants the chance to show for a second time that he has Canelo’s number.
Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence Jr. II
Most boxing fans would agree that this one is deserving of a rematch. The 2023 duel between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. II left fans feeling short-changed rather than entertained by a great fight.
Terence Crawford won at a canter. He’d already knocked Spence down three times before a ninth-round knockdown sealed the victory.
Many still believe Spence wasn’t at his best. He’d cut a lot of weight to make the fight, and didn’t perform anywhere near the levels of previous fights. Fans knew it was not a performance worthy of a fighter of his calibre.
They, and we, are calling for a rematch. Let Spence fight closer to the 154-pound level, and we’re sure the fight will be more competitive.
Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano III
Their first battle in April 2022 made history as the first women’s boxing match to headline Madison Square Garden. And it more than lived up to the hype. Taylor and Serrano went toe-to-toe for 10 electric rounds, with Taylor edging out a split decision that could have gone either way.
It wasn’t just a great women’s fight; it was a great fight, period.
The rematch took place on November 15 on the Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson undercard, with Taylor once again edging her rival, this time winning by unanimous decision.
The closeness of both fights and the financial reward has seen these two titans of women’s boxing agree to fight once again, on July 11, 2025, at Madison Square Garden.
Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury IV
Okay, hear us out. Yes, the trilogy is over. And yes, Fury leads the series 2-0-1. But if any rivalry in recent heavyweight history deserves a surprise fourth act, it’s this one.
Each of their fights delivered chaos, knockdowns, and highlight-reel moments. Wilder knocked Fury down four times across three fights. Fury knocked Wilder down five times. Their styles clash in the best way: Fury, the technical giant, Wilder, the raw power puncher.
Why a rematch? Because even in defeat, because the first three were so epic. Despite losing, Wilder showed he has both the heart and the danger to cause Fury problems. We’re 100% convinced that no fan would turn down the chance to see a fourth fight between the two.
The Takeaway
If you’ve witnessed some of the great boxing rematches throughout history, you’ll know that the above fights offer the best promise of more. Each will bring in the crowds, PPV money for the fighters, and hopefully another night of epic boxing.
