Badou Jack vs. Noel Mikaelian fight recap

Noel Mikaelian (28-3, 12 KOs) avenged his prior defeat to Badou Jack (29-4-3, 17 KOs) in a bout that was not the most pleasing to watch.

Scores for his unanimous decision win were 116-110 (x2) and 115-111. Mikaelian is now the WBC cruiserweight world champion with the win. This is his second time holding the title. Mikaelian’s first WBC reign began when he defeated Ilunga Makabu back in 2023. He fought Jack earlier this year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, losing a majority decision.

Jack was wobbled by a jab early in the opening round but recovered quickly. Both men choose to stand at range and mainly throw their punches from that distance. While there was plenty of movement between the two, neither fighter’s punches had much sting to them.

A point was deducted from Mikaelian in round seven due to him punching behind the head. Clinching became more frequent as the fight progressed. Jack was then deducted a point in the eighth for hitting after a break was called. The round ended with both men clinching against the ropes. Chaos ensued when Mikaelian threw several punches after the bell rang and both fighters had to be separated from each other before they eventually went back to their corners.

Mikaelian was simply busier from then on until the final bell. He landed the cleaner work in between the excessive clinching. The fight had been fought on fairly even terms until round eight. Mikaelian showed his quality in the later rounds while Jack struggled to find a way back into the contest.

Undercard results

Jonny Mansour (6-0, 2 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Marco Rodriguez (12-10-3, 5 KOs). Scores for their six-round lightweight clash were 60-54 across the board.

Robert Daniels Jr. (9-2, 7 KOs) won via first round knockout against Tristan Hamm (0-2, 0 KOs). The official time of stoppage for this four-minute cruiserweight contest was 2:24. Hamm fell back to the ropes following a barrage and was ruled knocked down. Although he got up, Daniels followed it up with another barrage that caused referee Thomas Taylor to step in and end proceedings with Hamm still standing.

Brook Sibrian (9-2, 4 KOs) won a majority decision against Gloria Munguilla (8-3, 0 KOs). Although one judge had the 10-round light flyweight fight 95-95, the other two saw it 97-93 and 96-94. This was the second meeting between the pair with Munguilla winning a unanimous decision the first time around.

Julius Ballo (2-0, 0 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Juan Centeno (10-26-4, 2 KOs). Scores for their six-round lightweight clash were 60-53 across the board. Centeno was knocked down in the fourth from a left hook to the body.
