Austin Williams vs. Patrice Volny Fight Recap
Williams was the busier of the two in the early rounds, though he did not overexert himself. Volny increased his output in the third, allowing him to outland the American in certain rounds. He maintained a tight guard and consistently threw out the jab.
In round six, Volny buzzed his opponent on a couple occasions, including once with a looping left hook. Williams was able to briefly stun the Canadian towards the end of the round, but got hit with a hard left hand before the bell rang.
There were times where Volny had Williams hurt, but did not follow up. As the contest entered its second half, “Ammo” did what he could to land punches and appeared to want the win more. It was this approach that helped him seal the victory on the scorecards. In the final round he finished strong, overwhelming Volny with several shots.

Post-fight Interview
Austin Williams
“Amazing, amazing in every way,” said Williams after the fight. “This is what we trained for. Hard fights, tough guys who want to win. He [Volny] had never been stopped before. I was going for [the stoppage], but my maturity showed me I can’t go and blast out and get caught with something. I learned from doing that. I had to beat him strategically. He’s very smart. He listened to his corner the whole fight. I had to pick from experiences I have in previous fights and take him down.”
“It’s very hard because the guys who have the high guard, not only do they have the hight guard, they have the ability to lean back. So sometimes you can try to press them and pull. They know you’re coming so they’ll take a step back, create some distance and throw even bigger shots from the floor and you got to watch those because they come from the bottom up and those can turn your lights out before you know it so I was happy that I had that experience to see that.”
“My coach Kevin Cunningham, he told me to keep pushing him and if he wasn’t telling me that in the corner, I would have lost this fight. If it wasn’t for my coach, I would have lost this fight so I appreciate him so very much and that’s what I need to go to world championship level.”
