Three Mexican Fighters to Watch for the Remainder of 2025
México is a country that has produced several incredible talents in the sport of boxing. Julio César Chávez, Juan Manuel Márquez and Marco Antonio Barrera are just some of many Mexican boxers who have made a name for themselves as boxers. While they are now retired, México continues to produce many talented fighters. Below Big Fight Weekend lists just three current professional Mexican boxers that fight fans should watch for the rest of 2025.
Three Mexican Boxers to Watch for the Remainder of 2025
Mexican Boxers to Watch: Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez
One of the most well-known names in Mexican boxing, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) has accomplished much in his career. Currently the undisputed super middleweight world champion, he has also held titles at super welterweight, middleweight and light heavyweight. Now 34, it may not be long before Canelo retires.
The Mexican is currently set to face Terence Crawford later this year. Although both men have accomplished much in the professional ranks, the matchup is quite bizarre. Canelo will be fighting at super middleweight against someone who has never fought above the super welterweight limit. What exactly he does after it remains unknown. One would hope that he would finally get around to fighting David Benavidez.
Sebastian Hernandez
Sebastian Hernandez (20-0, 18 KOs) is a heavy-hitting super bantamweight showing plenty of promise. He made his debut in late 2020 and has since fought at least three times a year. Though Hernandez has mostly fought in México, two of his last four fights have been in the United States. They include a win on the Jaime Munguía vs. Erik Bazinyan and the Emanuel Navarrete vs. Charly Suarez undercards.
Hernandez is still only 24 years old, but the Mexican is definitely one to watch. His recent appearances on Top Rank shows may be a sign of more stateside bouts in the future. This would only increase his profile as he continues to develop and move up in the rankings.
Gael Cabrera
Gael Cabrera (7-0, 4 KOs) is another super bantamweight from México. However, all of his fights have taken place in the United States. The 20-year-old is signed with Golden Boy Promotions and has fought on their cards since his professional debut.
Cabrera is still in the infancy of his professional career and fight fans can expect him to continue his development on Golden Boy Promotions events. He already boasts a win over Garen Diagan, a former world title challenger. While Cabrera is still only fighting six-rounders, it would be a mistake to not keep tabs on him at the moment.
Currently writing out of Toronto, Canada, Saadeq first became a boxing fan while living in Doha, Qatar. Looking to become more involved in the sport, he began writing about boxing and has had work published in outlets such as Seconds Out and Boxing Social. He looks forward to continue covering boxing on Big Fight Weekend.
