Terence Crawford Talks Canelo, Netflix and Future Plans After September 13
Weight Strategy and Body Transformation
When discussing his physical evolution leading into this fight against Alvarez on September 13, Crawford notes, “Not having to cut muscle, not having to worry about making weight and struggle and things like that.”
Rafael asked Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) whether he intends to bulk up to 168lbs or come in lighter to preserve speed: “I don’t know. We shall see. We got a little under two months to figure that out. We’ll make the best solution for fight night,” said Crawford.
Terence Crawford on Fighting Canelo on Netflix
Crawford sees Netflix as a major opportunity for boxing’s future: “I think it’s gonna be great. I think boxing is moving away from pay-per-view, and I think it’s a good thing because a lot of people with the piracy and stealing fights and things like that – I think that’s killed the pay-per-view.
I think giving it to the masses that have the app and things like that will be the next best thing, not only for the fans but for the sport of boxing.”
Inactivity Since 2020
Crawford addressed his limited ring appearances in recent years: “I would definitely liked to fight more and been more active, but given the circumstances that I had with my contract and then the circumstances with Spence…
We had a rematch clause, and that was dragged out for a year, and then turned out that the rematch wasn’t gonna happen, then trying to get an opponent and then fighting Madrimov because I was trying to fight Fundora, and he didn’t wanna fight me either. I had to go to plan B.”
Terence Crawford Reflects on Canelo’s Last Performance
“I think it was just him being frustrated because Scull wouldn’t fight the fight he wanted to fight, and he was just either irritated or bored.
I just think styles make fights at the end of the day,” Crawford said regarding Canelo’s performance against William Scull.

Looking Beyond September 13
When asked if Canelo Alvarez will be his last fight, Crawford kept his response open-ended: “We don’t know. One fight at a time. Let’s see how this fight goes. Maybe I’ll go back down to 154 and try to become undisputed. Maybe I’ll look to do a rematch, who knows? Right now we just focused on the task at hand.”
The Omaha native made it clear he’s not aiming for a knockout, just the win: “I don’t gotta knock him out, I just gotta beat him. Everybody getting hyped on the knockout,” said Crawford.
“I don’t ever go in none of my fights looking for a knockout. If it comes, it comes; if it don’t, as long as I get the victory, that’s all that matters.”
