Nick Ball vs. Brandon Figueroa press conference quotes
Nick Ball
“There’s no place like home, is there?” said Ball. “And here we are. Back home. I’ve been all around the world fighting on these big shows, big events, but you realize back home it’s something else. Makes you appreciate it and this is what it’s all about. And Frank [Warren] is the man in it behind it, putting it all on. Massive thanks to Frank and Queensberry.”
“Yeah, definitely [looking at this as the toughest fight of my career]. Definitely not overlooking them and things like that. But, in terms of when you’re saying it’s a tall order, that’s good. That’s where I’m most comfortable. I’ve been doing this me whole life. It’s not new to me. Taller they are, harder they fall. Bigger target, bigger body. All bigger things to hit.”
Brandon Figueroa
“First off, I want to thank God,” said Figueroa. “Thank my family, the media, everyone being here for the press conference. I’m just very excited. Me and my team had a great training camp and I’m just very excited to let my hands go this Saturday and yes, just very happy and very content and I can’t wait for Saturday.”
“I guess we’ll see Saturday night [whether Ball is able to hit me easier because I am bigger]. They all say the same thing and it never works out the way they wanted to. Saturday night, we’re going to see if he can back up all the talk. Supposedly six rounds they’re going to hit me 200 times in the head. We’ll find out. I’m not the one to really talk. I guess Saturday we’ll just go out there and see who’s the better man. I’m confident, very, very confident in my game plan, my team, the preparation, everything that we’ve been doing and I just can’t wait to put it all together Saturday.”
Fight prediction
Figueroa has the size advantage, but so did several of Ball’s previous opponents. The Liverpudlian is an aggressive fighter and his style should mesh well with that of his opponent’s. Ball has the advantage of spending the entirety of his professional career at or above the super bantamweight limit. The power shots of Figueroa, who has mostly fought at 122 lbs, should not worry him too much. Expect Ball to outwork his opponent and win a unanimous decision.
