MVP Caribe Royale DAZN Fight Cards Revealed – Rivera, Cordova and Harvey Feature
Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) will be hosting boxing events on August 22 and 23 at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, FL.
The first of those shows sees Jan Paul Rivera (12-0, 6 KOs) face Daniel Bailey (15-2, 8 KOs) in a 10-round featherweight main event. A day later, Yankiel Rivera (7-0, 3 KOs) headlines a card against Angelino Cordova (19-0-1, 12 KOs, 1 NC) that will see them clash in a 12-round flyweight contest. Boxing fans around the world can watch both cards live on DAZN.
Ahead of those respective events, Big Fight Weekend presents a list of fights on both cards to keep an eye on.
MVP at the Caribe Royale: The Fights to Watch Out for
The World Title Fights
Jasmine Artiga (13-0-1, 6 KOs) will make the first defence of her WBA super flyweight world championship against Linn Sandstrom (10-3-3, 2 KOs). This fight will take place on the Saturday MVP card. Artiga won the vacant title earlier this year against Regina Chávez. Sandstrom fought for the same title in April last year, losing to then champion Clara Lescurat.
The Saturday card will also see Stephanie Han (10-0, 3 KOs) defend her WBA lightweight championship against Paulina Angel (7-1-2, 3 KOs). This will be Han’s first title defence. She won the vacant belt against Hannah Terlep earlier this year. Angel will be challenging for a world title for the first time in her career.
The Secondary World Title Fights
The Saturday main event clash between Rivera and Cordova will have an interim WBA flyweight title on the line. Ricardo Sandoval is the current primary titlist. Back at the Tokyo Olympics, Rivera was the only boxer that represented Puerto Rico. Cordova previously fought for the WBC flyweight world title in March last year. Although he initially lost a majority decision to Julio Cesar Martínez, the result was later changed to a no contest after Martínez failed a drug test.
Also on that Saturday MVP card is a fight between Yoenis Tellez (10-0, 7 KOs) and Abass Baraou (16-1, 9 KOs) for the WBA interim super welterweight title. With primary titlist Terence Crawford facing Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez in September, there is a very real possibility that the winner of Tellez-Baraou could eventually get promoted to primary titlist. Tellez won the interim belt against Julian Williams earlier this year.
The Pro Debut of an Olympian
Jahmal Harvey will make his professional boxing debut on the Friday card. His opponent will be Marcelo Del Aguila (5-1, 1 KO). Harvey represented the United States at the Paris Olympics. He won his first fight at the competition before losing in the quarterfinals to Munarbek Seitbek Uulu. MVP announced earlier this month that the young American had signed a deal with the company and would be making his debut on the Friday card. Harvey’s debut contest is scheduled for six-rounds in the super featherweight division.
A Familiar Surname
The Friday MVP card also features a fighter by the name of Sebastian Juarez (8-0, 6 KOs). Fight fans may be familiar with his older brother, Omar, who featured on a number of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) events over the years. The younger Juarez is a middleweight prospect. He will face Louis Hernández (12-3-1, 10 KOs) in a six-rounder.
