Josh Padley Next Fight: Opponent and Date Confirmed

Josh Padley introduced himself to the boxing world on the Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois undercard when he defeated Mark Chamberlain. Following that impressive performance, Padley (15-1, 4 KOs) stepped up on late notice to replace Floyd Schofield and face WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson. Soon after his brave showing against the American, it was announced the Yorkshire fighter had joined Matchroom Boxing and now Padley’s first fight has been confirmed, with the opponent and fight date revealed in a social media post.

Josh Padley’s First Fight Under Matchroom Boxing Confirmed

Josh Padley vs Marko Cvetanovic Confirmed for Dalton Smith vs Mathieu Germain Undercard

Padley will make his Matchroom debut against the unbeaten Serbian fighter Marko Cvetanovic (13-0, 6 KOs) on April 19. Cvetanovic is an unknown quantity and comes into the Padley fight having beaten Viorel Simion. Cvetanovic will also be venturing outside of Serbia for the first time in his career. This fight will be on the Dalton Smith vs Marko Cvetanovic undercard at the Park Community Arena in Sheffield, England.

Padley will be eager to get back to winning ways after his brave defeat against Shakur Stevenson. It was a gallant showing, climbing off the canvas three times before being stopped in round number nine. The body shots from Shakur were enough to wear down the brave “Paddy” who stepped up on a mere few days’ notice.

After the Stevenson fight, “Paddy” was in a financial position – to finally quit his day job and join Matchroom.

Eddie Hearn Talks Pursuing a Dream

When signing “Paddy,” Eddie Hearn gave his thoughts on his new recruit: “I love great stories and there aren’t manybetter than the story of Josh Padley. Josh rolled the dice and stepped in with one of the greatest talents on the planet at just four days’ notice, and although he fell short to a pound-for-pound superstar on the night, he has completely transformed his life.

“With the purse he received from his brave showing against Stevenson and the backing of Matchroom, Josh can now put all of his focus on his boxing career – pursuing his dream of earning another world-title shot and winning a world title,” said Hearn.
