Jake Paul Next Fight Announced with Cruiserweight Title Unification Co-Main

Most Valuable Promotions and Golden Boy have announced a huge show that sees Jake Paul face former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The co-main event will see Golden Boy’s WBO & WBA unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez face the former IBF & WBA cruiserweight world champion and the current WBA mandatory challenger Yuniel Dorticós.

Jake Paul Next Fight: Toughest Test for ‘El Gallo’

Paul-Chavez Jr will be shown on DAZN PPV from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA on June 28. The co-main event between Ramirez and Dorticós is vitally important, with Ramirez looking to fight IBF champ Jai Opetaia, but could the experienced Cuban cause a shock?

On paper, on June 28, we will see Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) take on his biggest test against Chavez (54-6-1, 34 KOs). The Mexican has mixed at the highest level, fighting the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Sergio Martinez and Andy Lee. In more recent times, he has suffered issues outside of the ring and has only fought once since 2021, defeating Uriah Hall, in a largely forgettable encounter.

Paul was last seen, defeating Mike Tyson on the mammoth Netflix card last year. This upcoming contest heavily depends on what Chavez has left. His loss to Anderson Silva doesn’t bode well, with Paul defeating Silva comfortably.

Ramirez vs Dorticós

Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) has dazzled in his previous fights, defeating Arsen Goulamirian to win the WBA title, before becoming the unified champion, beating WBO champ Chris Billiam-Smith. His WBA mandatory is the 39-year-old Dorticos (27-2, 25 KOs). The Cuban has only fought once since 2022, stopping Alan Campa in the first round. Dorticos has mixed at a high level against Murat Gassiev, Mateusz Masternak and Mairis Briedis among others.

Despite all his experience, it’s difficult to see him troubling the slick Mexican, who looks at home at cruiserweight, and we expect him to defend his titles and hopefully move on to a cruiserweight mega-fight against the IBF titlist Jai Opetaia.
