The Last Three Opponents of Hamzah Sheeraz
Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOs) is set to face Edgar Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) on July 12 at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York. Their super middleweight bout will serve as the main event on The Ring III fight card. In preparation for fight night, here are the last three opponents of Sheeraz.
Hamzah Sheeraz vs Edgar Berlanga Confirmed for July 12 in Queens
Carlos Adames – February 22, 2025
On February 22, 2025, at The Venue Riyadh Season, Riyadh, Sheeraz challenged Carlos Adames for the WBC middleweight title. Sheeraz had moments during the fight where he controlled the distance really well, but Adames outworked and outpunched the challenger for much of the fight.
Turki Alalshikh and Frank Warren were constantly letting Sheeraz know they felt he was behind on the cards. Once the final bell sounded, most watching at ringside and at home seemed to have Adames as the winner. The scorecards were eventually read: 115-114 for Sheeraz, 118-110 for Adames, and 114-114, resulting in a controversial split draw.
Tyler Denny – September 21, 2024
On September 21, at Wembley Stadium, on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois, Hamzah Sheeraz faced Tyler Denny. It didn’t take long for the fight to spring into life, with Sheeraz landing a left hook, knocking Denny down.
Denny moved better in the second round, working well on the inside. Sheeraz increased the pressure during the second round, landing spiteful combinations. These combinations forced another knockdown, forcing the referee to wave the fight off, with Sheeraz winning the EBU middleweight title.
Austin Williams – June 1, 2024
On June 1, 2024, Queensberry routed Matchroom in the highly anticipated 5v5 showdown in Riyadh. On that card, Sheeraz faced unbeaten American, Austin “Ammo” Williams. The American did have moments of success, rocking Sheeraz in rounds 2 and 4.
Aside from those fleeting moments, Sheeraz controlled the fight with his ramrod jab. In round 10, Williams walked onto a big right hand from the Brit, which scored a knockdown. In the following round, Sheeraz landed a big right hand before landing a heavy-looking right-left combination, forcing the referee to step in and wave the fight off.
These previous three bouts set the scene for July 12. It remains to be seen how well Sheeraz will cope with the step up to super middleweight. Berlanga will be served well to not waste his work and make Sheeraz feel his power early on. Berlanga will need to counter the Brit well, punishing him for his mistakes.
