Gabriela Fundora Defends Undisputed Title on April 19 – Exciting Co-Feature Set

Undisputed women’s flyweight champion Gabriela Fundora (15-0, 7 KOs) is set to return to the ring and make the first defence of her undisputed crown against the IBF mandatory challenger Marilyn Badillo (19-0-1, 3 KOs). This fight will headline a Golden Boy Promotions card on April 19 live on DAZN at the Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California. An intriguing bout involving Charles Conwell (21-0, 16 KOs) will take up the co-feature slot on the card. Following the announcement, Fundora, Badillo, Conwell and Perez, all spoke about April 19.

Exciting Co-Feature Announced for Fundora vs Badillo

Undisputed flyweight champion Fundora has reacted to the confirmation of her latest fight: “My last fight, I made history as the youngest undisputed champion in the world,” said Gabriela Fundora. 

“I am excited to make history again, this time defending my undisputed status against the very hungry Badillo. This is my first main event, and I can’t wait to show the world all the hard work Team Fundora puts in to be the best,” added Fundora.

Her opponent has also reacted to the fight news that she will challenge Fundora: “I worked hard to earn my spot to challenge for this undisputed championship,” said Marilyn Badillo. “I am excited to make my U.S. debut and make waves in women’s boxing.” 

Oscar De La Hoya has revealed his excitement regarding Fundora-Badillo: “Golden Boy has a proven track record of delivering top-tier fights for fans while transforming talented fighters into world champions,” said the Golden Boy Chairman and CEO.

“In partnership with Sampson Boxing, Gabriela Fundora became the youngest undisputed world champion. On April 19, she will defend her titles against a hungry undefeated fighter in Marilyn Badillo, who has earned her shot at Gabby’s undefeated status. This fight has all the makings of an unforgettable night and with women’s boxing at an all-time high, Fundora is leading the charge.”

Charles Conwell vs Jorge Perez

Conwell is a live threat to anyone in the super welterweight division. He’s a come-forward fighter who packs a punch and picks his shots well. The Detroit native has spoken about his co-feature slot: “I’m so excited to get in the ring with someone ranked in the top 10,” said Charles Conwell. “It’s time to show the world just how good I am.”

His opponent Jorge Perez (32-4, 26 KOs) has won his last seven fights, including avenging his only career defeat against Etoundi Michel William. The Mexican fighter appears focused on causing a shock and moving on to bigger fights: “I feel very motivated by this great opportunity,” said Jorge Perez. “I have always dreamed of reaching the top, and this fight is the challenge that brings me closer to that goal. I feel prepared, ready, and I will give my best to come out with the victory. Thanks to my team, Zanfer and everyone that made this possible. ¡Viva Mexico!”
