Five Cruiserweight Fighters to Watch in 2025
The cruiserweight division has always provided plenty of entertainment and is currently blessed with talents such as Jai Opetaia and Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez. Here are five fighters from the division to watch out for in the next 12 months and beyond.
Cruiserweight Boxing: Top Fighters to Watch in 2025
Cruiserweight Boxing: Lucas Roehrig
The first fighter on our list is one we are excited about at Big Fight Weekend and its Dale Youth product Lucas Roehrig (1-0, 1 KO). He moves his feet well, controlling the distance and has an effective jab. Roehrig puts his punches together impressively and carries plenty of power. Remember the name, Lucas Roehrig, 2025 looks set to be a big year for the George Groves protege, and he will be back in action on Feb 1, appearing on the undercard of Adam Azim vs. Sergey Lipinets.
Leonardo Mosquea
Leonardo Mosquea (16-0, 9 KOs) was very much an unknown quantity before his fight with Cheavon Clarke on December 14. It was an entertaining clash at the Salle des Étoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco, with Mosquea triumphing by a split decision to become the new European cruiserweight champion. He showed impressive accuracy and power – in this fight, knocking down the Brit.
Lenar Perez
Cuban fighter Lenar Perez (13-0, 13 KOs) is the next on our list. He carries plenty of power, which has helped him out of some sticky situations, such as his fight against Igor Vilchitskiy, where he was soundly outboxed before landing a brutal left hook to the body, leaving his opponent unable to continue.
Aloys Youmbi
“The Animal” Aloys Junior (9-1, 8 KOs) is a talented 21-year-old from London who possesses fight-ending power. He narrowly lost his professional debut to the tough Polish fighter Michal Soczynski. Since then, he has been incredibly destructive, knocking out every opponent apart from the tough then undefeated Italian-born Oronzo Birardi. But in that fight, he still controlled most of the action with his front foot style and work rate.
David Nyika
David Nyika (10-1, 9 KOs) suffered his only professional defeat against Jai Opetaia. It was a brutal knockout loss, but the New Zealand fighter showed his immense bravery and impressed before the knockout with his shot selection and come-forward style. It was just unfortunate he came across one of the most dangerous fighters in boxing. We are tipping a big return for Nyika in 2025.
