George Groves makes his pick for Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2
Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) 1 was an all-British classic. The build-up was full of incident and intrigue, and the undercard largely delivered. Eubank Sr even made a memorable appearance on fight night.
Eubank Jr (35-3, 25 KOs) ultimately produced the cleaner work, despite having to survive some scares. The judges scored it unanimously in favour of Eubank, with scorecards of 116-112 x3.
Both fighters came out of their first fight with plenty of praise, and now the rematch is getting closer. Groves has looked ahead to Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2 on November 15, breaking down the bout and revealing his pick:
“I think Conor Benn beats him and might well stop him. He caught him early-ish in that first fight but he couldn’t capitalize. He’s gotta make some major adjustments, Benn. He can’t fight the same as did the first time. He’s given away a bit of height and reach. So he needs to have a better jab and better feet.
“When he is inside, he needs to work with better shot selection because I remember him doing lots of dynamic movement and lots of springing in, but not creeping in. And that gets tiring when the bigger guy’s there and he’s laying on you and then you end up just trading with him.”
“He doesn’t have that level of pedigree. He’s had lots of time out of the ring. He’s 28 years old now. Late twenties. He’s mature. He’s probably in his physical peak. If he gets his boxing style tactics spot on, he beats Eubank and beats him quite comfortably,” added Groves.
