Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their March 21 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.
Carlos Adames vs. Austin Williams press conference quotes
Carlos Adames
“It’s very easy to speak when you’re in front of a microphone,” said Adames through an interpreter. “But I do my talking in the ring.”
“It’s going to be a war. It’ll be a war between two gladiators, but there’ll only be one true gladiator in there. When we go in, [Williams] won’t be able to do 12 rounds with me. And if you do, if you want to beat me, you’ll have to go 12 rounds. But you’re incapable…”
Austin Williams
“I don’t have much to say,” said Williams. “Say your piece. Say everything you got to say. Y’all ready to fight? I’m ready to fight. It’s going to be a real fight. At this point I don’t really have much words for [Eddie Hearn, press conference host]. I don’t have much words for [Adames] either. I said what I had to say because I meant it…”
“It’s no thinking. It’s nothing. I’m just fighting him. We’re really going to fight and y’all could talk about any other fight, but nothing matters but Saturday night. You could talk about my fight with this person, that fight. I’m fighting [Adames]. Fighting [Adames] and that’s all that matters. So you can try to build your confidence from any other event, but this is happening. Bro, I’m about to hurt you. Sincerely…”
Fight prediction
These two were supposed to fight in January, but Adames withdrew a day before the bout due to illness. That could be a sign that he is struggling with the weight, something that could benefit Williams. However, Adames is the better skilled of the two. He should be able to outbox Williams (who had a relatively late start to boxing) and eventually stop him. Expect a stoppage victory for Adames within eight rounds.
