Canelo vs Crawford Fight Week to Host Launch of New ‘Underdog’ Series

On September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Canelo Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) vs Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) will headline a Zuffa, Sela and Riyadh Season promotion, streamed live on Netflix. Canelo vs Crawford carries huge intrigue, with both fighters aiming to add to their already vast legacies. It has now been announced that The Ring and DAZN are launching a new series in fight week called “The Underdog,” with a card taking place on September 11 at  Fontainebleau Las Vegas’ BleauLive Theater. Here are the fights confirmed for this new event.

Canelo vs Crawford Fight Week: New Series Announced

Anthony Olascuaga vs Juan Carlos Camacho

The Ring and DAZN will launch their new series in Las Vegas during the Canelo vs Crawford fight week. This new feature will become a monthly series in January. It will feature rising contenders, prospects and under the radar champions, in what are considered 50-50 fights. The inaugural main event of the new series will feature WBO flyweight champion Anthony Olascuaga (9-1, 6 KOs) against Juan Carlos Camacho (19-1, 8 KOs). Olascuaga has fought only in Japan since 2023, and this offers a great chance for the American to announce himself on the biggest stage.

Justin Viloria vs Joshafat Ortiz

In the super featherweight division, prospects Justin Viloria (9-0, 7 KOs) and Joshafat Ortiz (13-1, 6 KOs) will face off. The winner here will move on to bigger fights. Viloria brings plenty of speed and power, but Ortiz brings his own skillset to the table, with slick footwork and sharp combinations. What a great stage for these two prospects to impress.

Jalil Hackett vs Elijah Vines

Matchroom Boxing prospect Jalil Hackett (9-1, 7 KOs) will also appear on the card in a super welterweight bout against the unbeaten Elijah Vines (8-0, 7 KOs). Hackett is a talented fighter, but lost last time out against Jose Roman Vazquez. This is a step up in competition for Vines, but a great opportunity for both to move onto a new level of competition.

Emiliano Alvarado vs Juan Garcia

Emiliano Alvarado (8-0, 5 KOs) and Juan Garcia (7-0, 2 KOs) will battle it out in the super bantamweight division. Alvarado has already fought three times this year, winning twice by stoppage. Garcia has looked largely untroubled in his fights thus far, and it remains to be seen just how far these two can go.

Jamar Talley vs Isaiah Thompson

The cruiserweight division will also be represented with Jamar Talley (3-0, 3 KOs) facing Isaiah Thompson (11-4-2, 10 KOs). Talley was an impressive amateur, who stopped Kurt Fleming in his last fight. Thompson, despite his average looking record has power and will be looking to cause a big upset on September 11.
This new underdog series is a fascinating concept with CEO of The Ring, Rick Reeno, saying: “The Underdog is all about giving fans the fights they want — competitive, unpredictable matchups that highlight the next generation of stars.”
“September’s teaser event is a preview of what’s to come and, starting in January next year, fans can expect must-watch action every month.”
Its debut in Canelo vs Crawford fight week will lead into at least one show per month next year.
