Callum Walsh (15-0, 11 KOs) will soon take on Carlos Ocampo (38-3, 26 KOs) in a 10-round middleweight contest.

Their bout headlines a Zuffa Boxing card at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas, NV. Fight fans in the United States and Canada can catch the action live on Paramount+. The rest of the world can do so on the Zuffa Boxing YouTube channel.

Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their Jan. 23 clash. Below is some of what they had to say.

Callum Walsh vs. Carlos Ocampo press conference quotes

Callum Walsh

“It [helping Dana White inaugurate the Zuffa Boxing venture] means a lot to me,” said Walsh. “Dana’s supported my career massively since the beginning and to be here now with Zuffa and the UFC, a company that I’ve watched since I was like 10, 11 years old, to be so close and to work with them now is unbelievable. It makes everything a lot better. It means a lot to me to be here, to be the first ever main event. There’ll only ever be one. I always look back on the first UFC fights. I hope sometime in the future people look back on this and to see all of us, everyone here involved kicking this off.”

Carlos Ocampo

“I feel very happy and very grateful to be representing my team, México, and everybody else,” said Ocampo through an interpreter. “And this is the first card of many that will come in the future.”

“I think in boxing we all want to be very active. We want to fight as many times as possible and I think this gives you the opportunity to have something like that. I think all of us are very grateful and very excited to be part of the first card for Zuffa Boxing.”

Fight prediction

Ocampo has generally fallen short whenever he has stepped up to face better quality opposition. Walsh may not be among the very best, but he certainly has the skillset to outbox his opponent. Expect a unanimous decision win for the Irishman on Friday night.
