Must-See Boxing in May: Five Fights You Can’t Miss
Boxing Schedule: Five Fights to Look Forward to in May
Boxing Schedule: Ryan Garcia vs Rolly Romero – May 2
On May 2 Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) will return to action on the historic Times Square card in New York. He will face Rolly Romero (16-2, 13 KOs). It will be intriguing to see how Garcia performs after returning from his 12-month drug ban. Romero can punch, but Garcia should have too much class for him.
When asked at a press conference for May 2, how long Rolly will last in the ring with him, he said: “He’s going to come to fight. I’m not taking him lightly or anything like that. I’m still going to train my best, but everybody wants to see the rematch (with Haney), and that’s where my heart is at. So, I’ve just got to prepare well. I know I’m the better fighter, and I’m going to knock him out.”
Canelo Alvarez vs William Scull – May 3
Naoya Inoue vs. Ramon Cardenas – May 4
Naoya Inoue vs. Ramon Cardenas (26-1, 14 KOs) will take place on May 4 at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. The punch-power of “The Monster” should prove too much for his American opponent. If Inoue (29-0, 26 KOs) wins as expected, it’s thought he will next face Murodjon “MJ” Akhmadaliev next.
Reflecting on his upcoming fight: “I am thankful to the fans in America who have followed my career,” Inoue said. “Fighting at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is another career highlight, and I look forward to putting on a great show for everyone in attendance. Cardenas is a tough opponent who I respect for accepting the fight without hesitation.”
Any time Inoue appears on the boxing schedule, fight fans tune in with anticipation.
Anthony Cacace vs. Leigh Wood – May 10
On May 10 at the Nottingham Arena, an intriguing super featherweight bout will take place with Anthony Cacace (23-1, 8 KOs) and Leigh Wood (28-3, 17 KOs) facing off for the IBO title. Wood has been largely inactive, while Cacace has been in good form, stopping Joe Cordina and beating Josh Warrington. This fight could explode with both normally entertaining fighters. This is definitely one to watch on the May boxing schedule.
When talking about the relationship between DAZN and Queensberry, Warren recently said: “We are starting as we mean to go on and, as you might expect, the heavyweights will play a big, big part in 2025 and beyond. Then Nottingham is the place to be the following month for a real banger of a fight between Anto Cacace and Leigh Wood. It is the sort of domestic blockbuster we will be seeing plenty of across the partnership between Queensberry and DAZN.”
Johnny Fisher vs. Dave Allen – May 17
Johnny Fisher (13-0, 11 KOs) and Dave Allen (23-7-2, 18 KOs) originally fought on the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk 2 undercard, with Fisher winning a close split decision. Many felt Allen had done enough, but it was close. The rematch will take place on May 17 at Copper Box Arena, London. The experience of Allen was a huge factor in the first fight and Fisher will need to use his size advantage and keep his opponent at a distance to frustrate him. It’s an intriguing rematch that will tell us a lot about Fisher’s ceiling.
