Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their Jan. 10 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.
Agit Kabayel vs. Damian Knyba press conference quotes
Agit Kabayel
“I have to express my thanks to my coach [for finding appropriate sparring partners],” said Kabayel through an interpreter. “He always looks for the right sparring partner according to the opponent. I’ve had some people who are bigger, taller actually, than he is. I’d like to again thank my sparring partners. But, nevertheless, every fight, every bout is something new. I always try to bring out the best of myself…”
“This is my own era. The Kabayel era is the new generation. You can see that yourself with how the media is coming on board. We’ve invited people. It started off maybe not so strong, but we still sold out so quickly. We got so much interest and generated that so easily and so quickly. So I’m writing my own story and we’re only at the beginning of the journey now, but I’m ready to go so let’s go.”
Damian Knyba
“The media don’t take me so seriously, but I can’t say the same about Agit,” said Knyba through a Polish to German interpreter whose words were then interpreted into English. “[Kabayel] does respect me. He takes me seriously and I in turn have great respect for him. He was also in my situation as the underdog, but now I am in his position. He knows my situation, but on Saturday I’m going to show you everything that I can do. I’m going to give it my all and be the best fighter I can be.”
“Agit will be defensive, I presume. I’m prepared for that. But we do have a good and strong gameplan, but I don’t want to betray too much about it. You’re going to see it soon enough on Saturday. But in all events, it’s going to be a very interesting and extremely emotional bout and you’re going to see that on Saturday as I said.”
Fight prediction
Kabayel is among the better body punchers at heavyweight. He will have plenty to work with as Knyba is incredibly tall. The Polish boxer may have a significant height and reach advantage, but Kabayel will be able to close the distance and hit the body consistently. Expect to German to win this via stoppage within eight rounds.
