Will Gervonta Davis take huge non-PBC offer to fight Tevin Farmer?

WBA Junior lightweight champ Gervonta Davis is in demand for a possible unified title shot with IBF belt holder, Tevin Farmer. And now we’re going to find out if Davis, and his promoter PBC, are willing to make a deal with a fighter who’s got network and promotional ties elsewhere.

The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger tweeted on Wednesday that proposals are flying left and right first from Davis’s camp with Leonard Ellerbe and Mayweather Promotions (on behalf of PBC) making an offer to fight Farmer:

Shortly thereafter, Coppinger again tweeted a more interesting and lucrative piece that Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn want to give Davis $5 million to hop onto DAZN streaming service and fight Farmer later this year:

It’s already well known that the Premier Boxing Champion promotion arm doesn’t want to do business with DAZN and Matchroom. They likewise, have stayed away from deals with Top Rank boxing, ESPN and their fighters. This is the main reason why WBO Welterweight Champ, Terence Crawford (Top Rank) is being frozen out by PBC who controls the other three world champions, Manny Pacquiao, Errol Spence and Shawn Porter.

So the question becomes how much money is there from Ellerbe and Mayweather (PBC) to keep Davis happy and still make the fight with Farmer sometime soon?

Davis just successfully defended his WBA 130 lbs. title at the end of July in his hometown of Baltimore. Headlining on Showtime, Davis scored a second round KO of little known Panamanian Ricardo Nunez to improve to 22-0 with 21 KOs.

Coincidentally, Farmer (30-4-1) was defending his IBF belt, simultaneously in Arlington, Texas, on that same Saturday night, as the co-main event on DAZN. He was victorious with a 12 round easy decision over Guillaume Frenois.

It is believed that the potential Davis-Farmer showdown could be in November or December. It’s also very possible that WBA Featherweight (126 lbs.) champ Leo Santa Cruz, a PBC fighter, could move up and fight Davis this winter, instead.
