Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Jaron Ennis ‘that’s all b*******’ says Robert Garcia
On Saturday, November 8, at Dickies Arena, Fort Worth, Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Erickson Lubin headlines a Golden Boy Promotions card, live on DAZN for Ortiz’s WBC interim super welterweight title.
Ortiz has long been linked with fighting many big names, including Jaron Ennis. Eddie Hearn has recently said Ortiz-Ennis has been agreed from Matchroom’s side; however, Ortiz’s trainer Robert Garcia has rubbished these claims, describing the rumours as “that’s all b*******.”
Eddie Hearn Talks Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Jaron Ennis
Speaking to Fight Hub TV and The Boxing Mob, Eddie Hearn recently revealed that Ennis had agreed to fight Ortiz:
“Just to make it clear on Vergil Ortiz. We sat in a room, me, Oscar De La Hoya, Eric Gomez, and the top DAZN execs in America.
“We talked about how a deal would work with those two fighters, and we agreed on a deal. We went away – we signed a new deal with Boots. Part of that deal, within the contract, was the deal that we agreed with Golden Boy and DAZN to fight Vergil Ortiz. Boots signed it.”
Ennis and Ortiz Jr both remain unbeaten, with Ennis defeating Uisma Lima last time, while Ortiz defeated Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision (117-111, 115-113, 115-113).
Robert Garcia dismisses talk of Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Jaron Ennis
Despite Hearn’s recent comments, Ortiz’s trainer, Robert Garcia says he doesn’t believe Ennis wants to face his fighter:
“Boots doesn’t want to fight Vergil. Boots is not going to fight Vergil next. You know, whatever they say, ‘oh, there’s a signed contract ready,’ that’s all b*******.
“Boots is not going to fight Vergil next. He’s gonna show up. Why didn’t they call us up and invite us to his fight two weeks ago, or three weeks ago, whenever he fought? You come to ours, we go to yours, we know, we promote the fight.
“That would have been the perfect idea to do. But, they wanna show up, and they are gonna show up; that doesn’t make a difference. Vergil is going to do his job, but that just kind of trying to get the media, press to believe that they’re ready for the fight.
“I know they’re not. I know they already have a date where they already have a possible opponent already. So it’s all part of the show, part of promoting the event, part of promoting his fighter. Eddie’s doing a great job doing it,” said Garcia.
