A favourite pastime for many boxing fans is to look at fighters who never fought and discuss who would have won. Carl Froch recently spoke to Foot Italia and delivered his brutal verdict on who would have won between Lennox Lewis and Tyson Fury.

The heavyweight division with its unpredictability still attracts the most eyes in the boxing world. Two of the greatest heavyweight fighters in recent memory are Lewis and Fury. Both took on the best and never shied away from a heavyweight war.

When asked who would have won between Lewis and Fury, Froch had no hesitation: “Lewis would’ve absolutely f**king hammered him. Fury would have mixed it with him and stayed with him and kept in there for a few rounds. But Lewis would’ve beat him up. Lennox Lewis was pure class and an Olympic champion, big strong puncher. Tyson Fury would not have gotten close to him. He would have got f**ked up.

Fury was involved in many memorable fights, not least his trilogy war with Deontay Wilder, which was brutal, to say the least. Despite losing twice to Oleksandr Usyk, he made a strong contribution in both bouts. Rumours still persist that we may see him fight again, but his legacy remains intact.

Lewis will forever have his name etched into boxing history. He suffered two career defeats, against Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman, avenging both defeats in style. He never shied away from fighting the best, beating Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and Vitali Klitschko.

When looking at who might have won this hypothetical super-fight, as good as “The Gypsy King” was, Lewis was exceptional at finding a way and his hammer of a right hand would have tested Fury’s resolve. But Fury was a brilliant mover and would have been a complicated puzzle for Lewis to solve. Despite the strengths of both, Carl Froch had no doubt.
