Big Fight Weekend has a commitment to writing about boxing news, previews, and recaps. As such, the site now has a recurring segment on championship bouts – from around the world from the past week.

Today’s edition of Title Fights From Around The World – consists of two recaps. On Nov. 24, the WBO super bantamweight title was at stake in France. We also look at Erika Cruz’s triumph on Nov. 18 in Inglewood, CA.

Ségolène Lefebvre Retains Belt

Ségolène Lefebvre (18-0, 1 KO) retained her WBO super bantamweight title with a majority decision win over Tysie Gallagher (6-2, 0 KOs). A score of 95-95 was overturned by cards of 97-93 and 96-94. The fight headlined an event at the Hippodrome Municipal in Douai, France.

From the opening bell, Gallagher was aggressive, throwing large hooks with both hands. Lefebvre addressed this by using the jab to keep the Luton-based fighter at bay in round two. In the third, however, the two traded tit for tat. One of the bits of feedback Lefebvre’s trainer gave her was to not engage with the British fighter in that manner.

The French fighter then opted to box and move for the remainder of the fight. Gallagher remained aggressive, but her opponent controlled the ring and landed combinations. The contest itself was close, but two of the judges felt that the French boxer did enough to get the win.

Erika Cruz Becomes Latest Super Bantamweight Champ

With the win, the Mexican fighter is now the WBA super bantamweight titlist, having previously been the organization’s featherweight champion. The fight featured on a Matchroom Boxing event at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, CA. DAZN broadcasted the event that saw Diego Pacheco stop Marcelo Coceres in nine rounds.

Both fighters began the clash in a cautious, technical fashion. Rivas worked off the back foot, catching the Mexican whenever she came forward. In round four, Rivas stood her ground and traded. The middle rounds saw close two-way action. In the second half of the fight, the former featherweight titlist would come forward with the intention of landing a hard shot. “La Monita” would resort to holding in order to derail her opponent’s activity. In the end, two of the judges saw Cruz doing the better work over ten rounds.
