‘Bring it on’: Tim Tszyu on potential Errol Spence Jr showdown
On April 4 at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, Tim Tszyu will meet Denis Nurja for the vacant WBO international middleweight title. Tszyu will be aiming to impress before moving on to bigger opportunities. In a recent interview with Dan Rafael, the Australian discussed a potential showdown with Errol Spence Jr (28-1, 22 KOs).
Tim Tszyu set for Nurja showdown on April 4
Tszyu (26-3, 18 KOs) endured a tough 2024, suffering back-to-back defeats against Sebastian Fundora and Bakhram Murtazaliev. The Australian returned to action, beating Joseph Spencer. Tszyu then suffered a comprehensive loss in the rematch against Fundora.
A comfortable win against Anthony Velazquez will have given Tszyu a much-needed confidence boost. A routine night against Nurja (20-0, 9 KOs) will be needed for Tszyu before he moves on to a rumoured showdown with Errol Spence Jr.

Tim Tszyu welcomes Errol Spence Jr clash
When looking ahead to the Nurja clash, Tim Tszyu was asked about Nurja being an unnecessary risk ahead of a potential Spence clash.“I agree, but look, this is what we risk, man,” Tszyu said. “So, bring it on, man. It’s all good for me.”
Spence has not fought since being comprehensively beaten by Terence Crawford in their undisputed welterweight title clash. When asked about facing the American, Tszyu said:
“I definitely welcome it. It’s definitely very appealing,” Tszyu said of the potential Spence match. “Stylistically, it’s a very fun fight for fans to watch because you don’t know which way it could go. I think it’s intriguing. What he’s achieved, future Hall of Famer already right there. But a lot of question marks. Answers are needed, so it’s an intriguing match between two different styles. It’s going to be a splash, that’s for sure.”
“I think for Australia it’s going to be a history-making type of thing, this type of calibre fight,” Tszyu said of a potential Spence clash “I remember Pacquiao versus Horn. That was massive; 50,000-plus in a stadium. So, I think we’re talking about those types of numbers, and to experience something like that, not too many fighters get to do that.”
