On September 13 at Allegiant Stadium, in Las Vegas, Terence Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) created history by defeating Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) by unanimous decision. This success ensured Crawford became a three-division undisputed champion and four-division lineal champion.

Following this triumph, Crawford’s trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre spoke to the media and was asked about a potential bout against David Benavidez at 168lbs, and gave a clear answer.

Terence Crawford creates history against Canelo Alvarez

The opening few rounds were full of intrigue, with Crawford mobile and Canelo landing the occasional hook.

Canelo had his moments, but Crawford was moving well and putting fast, effective combinations together. As the fight progressed, ‘Bud’ began to sit down on his punches, before using his mobility to get out of range.

As the fight reached the later rounds, Crawford sustained a cut due to an accidental head clash. The cut caused no issues, with Crawford remaining disciplined. The Omaha native even began to back Canelo up near the end of the fight.

When watching the fight, I had it 8-4 in favour of Crawford. The judges had it closer, but the right man won, with ‘Bud’ winning by unanimous decision with cards of 116-112 and 115-113 (x2).

The execution was perfect from Crawford and Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, and immediately after the fight, speculation ignited about what Crawford would do next, with Turki Alalshikh posting on X, “Can David Benavidez still make 168 pounds?”

McIntyre was asked about a potential Crawford vs Benavidez fight, and made it clear where they stand on it: “Nah man, we ain’t doing that fight.”

Terence Crawford solidifies legacy

This win for ‘Bud’ solidifies his already storied legacy. Many fight fans, including Canelo himself, questioned Crawford’s resume, despite his win over Errol Spence. Following this victory, Crawford’s resume cannot be questioned. This is a historic win, and people will remember the significance of this victory for many years.

Canelo’s legacy was secured many years ago, and now Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford’s belongs in the boxing Mount Rushmore conversations.
