It became clear quickly that Crawford would look to remain mobile and pick his moments to engage. Canelo attempted to close the distance and landed the occasional hook early on.
Despite the Mexican having his moments, Crawford quickly found his rhythm and began to put impressive combinations together. The Omaha native continued to get the better of the Mexican superstar and even began to sit down on his punches in the later rounds.
The scorecards confirmed “Bud” had done enough, winning by unanimous decision with cards of 116-112 and 115-113 (x2).

Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Stevenson discussed Canelo saying Crawford is ‘way better’ than Mayweather:
“I see what Canelo is saying. I think he’s probably mesmerized by how strong Bud Crawford was that night. I think he realized that if he made one mistake, he could have got hurt in that fight.”
What the future holds for Terence Crawford and Canelo is a question many in the world are asking. Canelo appears focused on returning, with it being revealed that Turki Alalshikh met with him following the fight. The Mexican superstar is scheduled to fight twice more for Riyadh Season in 2026.
Whether we see Crawford again remains to be seen. He’s achieved so much and belongs in the conversation regarding the boxing Mount Rushmore. Could we see him fight at 160lbs, defend his titles at 168lbs, or even retire?
