Tenshin Nasukawa vs. Takuma Inoue fight recap

Takuma Inoue (21-2, 5 KOs) dashed Tenshin Nasukawa’s (7-1, 2 KOs) hopes of becoming a boxing world champion, defeating him via unanimous decision.

Scores were 117-111 and 116-112 (x2). Inoue is now the WBC bantamweight world champion with the victory. The title had been vacated by Junto Nakatani who chose to move up in weight, allowing for the belt to be put at stake for this bout.

Both fighters mainly stayed at range of each other in the opening round. Nasukawa’s longer reach allowed him to land his left hand from a distance. Inoue picked up the pace in round three and started to close the distance, allowing for eye-catching exchanges to take place in the following rounds. Although Nasukawa started strongly, his opponent started to take control.

The change in pace benefitted Inoue, who was now outworking the former kickboxer. Nasukawa, who mostly operated off of the back foot, was still able to keep things competitive. However, Inoue’s work rate only widened the gap on the scorecards as the fight went on. The former WBA champion repeatedly had success with hooks and straight right hands upstairs.

Desperate to get the win, Nasukawa threw wild swinging shots in the final round in the hopes that they would connect. Not only did Inoue avoid them, he countered with combinations upstairs. In the end, the fighter with the greater boxing experience triumphed. While Nasukawa had his moments throughout the contest, it was not enough to get the upper hand against Inoue.

Undercard results

Ra’eese Aleem (23-1, 12 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Mikito Nakano (14-1, 13 KOs). Scores for their 12-round featherweight contest were 118-109, 116-111, and 115-112. Nakano was knocked down in the tenth after being hit with a right hand straight to the face.

Tomoya Tsuboi (3-0, 2 KOs) won via eighth round technical knockout against Carlos Cuadras (44-6-1, 28 KOs). The official time of stoppage for their 10-round super flyweight clash was 2:59. Tsuboi landed a barrage of punches that caused referee Nobuto Ikehara to step in and put an end to proceedings.

Opening the broadcast on the Top Rank Classics FAST channel, Riku Masuda (9-1, 8 KOs) won a technical majority decision against José Miguel Calderón (14-3, 6 KOs). The 10-round bantamweight contest was stopped at 1:27 of the fifth after Calderón was cut by the right eye following an accidental clash of heads. He had also been cut on the bridge of his nose earlier in the fight. While one judge had the action 48-48, the other two saw it 49-46 and 48-47 for Masuda.
