‘That’s a little cowardice on his part’ – Ryan Garcia takes aim at Terence Crawford over WBC fallout

Terence Crawford has once again made headlines this week, with his response to the WBC, which announced at its convention in Thailand that Crawford was stripped of his WBC super middleweight title, thus losing his undisputed status.

Ryan Garcia has appeared on the Inside the Ring show, where he has criticised Crawford for the timing of his stance on the WBC sanctioning fees.

Terence Crawford at War with the WBC

The WBC announced recently they had stripped Crawford of the WBC belt he won against Canelo. They also claimed the Omaha native had failed to pay a previous fee for his fight against Israil Madrimov in August 2024.

“The WBC sent multiple communications to Champion Crawford, his manager, and his legal counsel. Very unfortunately, the WBC did not receive an acknowledgment of receipt nor any response to any of those communications,” the statement read.

“The WBC had no choice but to act, considering Champion Crawford had received ample notification and multiple opportunities to address and resolve the situation.”

“Bud” Crawford immediately fired back at Mauricio Sulaiman, and the WBC:

“I got something to say. I got a lot to say,” he began.  “I see Mauricio got a lot to say about me not paying him $300,000, plus $100,000-something for sanction fees, right? … like, who the f— you think I am? Boy, you better slap your f—ing self. I ain’t paying your a– s—. F— you talking about?

“You can take the f—ing belt! It’s a trophy anyway,” Crawford added.

The WBC has reportedly ordered a fight between Hamzah Sheeraz and Christian Mbilli for the now-vacant super middleweight title.

Appearing on the latest episode of Inside the Ring, Garcia made it clear what he thought regarding the timing of Crawford’s WBC stance:

“Crawford should have talked his talk before. When he needed them, he wasn’t talking like this,” Garcia said.

“Now he’s got the money, he thinks ‘I don’t need the WBC to get me an opportunity’. Now I’m going to say, f**k you all’.

“To me, that’s a little cowardice on his part.”

It remains to be seen what the long-term ramifications are regarding Crawford’s outburst. Could this be a huge boost for TKO and their plans? Is Crawford looking out for other boxers? How do you see the situation?
