Jones bossed throughout the contest, with his speed and combination punching bamboozling González. The Mexican fight brought an undefeated heavyweight record to the table (27-0), but that record was no match for the brilliance of Jones.

Jones showcased his power, knocking down González three times in the fight, round one, five and again in the 12th. Despite being extremely brave the class of Jones was too much for his opponent as he moved around the ring and landed almost at will. The Pensacola native was in a dominant mood as he defeated his opponent comfortably with the judge’s scorecards reading 119-106, 119-106 and 118-107.
Legacy
Jones Jr. showcased his brilliance against González as he controlled the distance perfectly and showed his opponent who was boss when they met in the pocket. His IQ was exceptional during his career, and he could alter his game plan depending on the opposition or how the fight was going.

Jones cemented his legacy in boxing with that win over Ruiz, but he showed just how dominant he was in the light heavyweight division when he beat González. Despite some damaging defeats later in his career, Jones Jr. was an exceptionally gifted boxer, who will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the greatest fighters of all time.
