Hitchins Discusses Potential Lopez and Haney Bouts
This was Hitchins’ first defence since winning the title last December from Liam Paro. The American started brightly consistently landing his power jab allowing him to dictate the distance and tempo of the fight. He also worked effectively off his jab, landing the right hand almost at will. His speed also enabled him to dictate proceedings in the pocket, outworking Kambosos.
A big body shot stunned Kambosos in round five, with the Aussie struggling to stay on his feet and survive the round. The Brooklyn native continued to dominate and in round eight, a left to the body sent Kambosos to the canvas, who struggled to get to his feet, prompting referee Michael Griffin to wave off the bout, ensuring Hitchins retained his IBF super lightweight title.
Teofimo Lopez or Devin Haney
When asked if he would like to face Devin Haney or Teofimo Lopez next, Hitchins said: “Teofimo Lopez. I think Teofimo Lopez. I ain’t gonna lie, either one of them is a big fight.
“I feel like just with me, my attitude, my charisma, my flamboyance, what I bring to the table, people would hate me, but they’re gonna watch me. So I think that boxing needs somebody like me and somebody like Teofimo, he’s crazy. So, with both of us, it would go for a great buildup. We could both fight. We both young, in our prime, and I think it would be dope, and there’s a storyline behind it. So I think that’s a big fight.”
Devin Haney and History
“Me and Devin Haney is also a big fight. We got history together, so these are all big fights that’s gonna happen in the near future. We all in our primes and sooner or later we gotta show who’s really the best,” said Hitchins.
