Bellew’s Pick: The Ideal Test for Itauma
Moses Itauma’s first fight of 2025 was an impressive display against Mike Balogun on May 24. The exciting prospect showcased his trademark speed and power, scoring three heavy knockdowns against the brave American. After the third knockdown, the referee waved the fight off.
The final knockdown perfectly highlighted Itauma’s skill, with Balogun rushing in, Itauma took a step back and landed a sharp right cross that sent him crashing to the canvas. Now ranked no.1 with the WBO, big fights are surely on the horizon for Itauma.
Itauma continues to impress, and all eyes turn to July 19, and who the talented 20-year-old will face on the Usyk vs Dubois undercard. When talking to Bet Ideas, Bellew revealed the name he thinks would be perfect for Itauma: “The world’s his oyster. I just think don’t go too quick too soon. Because once you step past the mark, there’s no going back. So for someone like Moses, I think the most important thing at the stage now is rounds.
“He’s not getting rounds against fighters who should be giving him rounds. (Jermaine) Franklin could give him the rounds. I like the Franklin fight for him. I just think he’s an exceptional talent. He’s got to be managed correctly.”
Moses Itauma: The Future
Moses Itauma is fast becoming one of the most talked-about heavyweights, having dispatched all his opponents with relative ease thus far. He has been linked with a potential fight against Martin Bakole, though that possibility was firmly dismissed by Francis Warren. Whoever is next for Itauma, the boxing world will be tuning in to watch this exciting contender.
