Five Most Memorable Mike Tyson Knockouts

On November 15 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) makes his highly-anticipated return to the ring to face Jake Paul (10-1, 7 KOs) in the heavyweight main event of a Most Valuable Promotions card, which will stream live across the globe on Netflix and be promoted by Most Valuable Promotions. As we build up to this historic bout, Big Fight Weekend takes you back to look at five memorable knockouts from Tyson’s record.

Mike Tyson Fights: Five Unforgettable ‘Iron Mike’ Knockouts

Mike Tyson Fights: Michael Spinks – June 27, 1988

In Atlantic City, Mike Tyson recorded one of his most memorable wins, and for us, his most memorable KO win against a deer in headlights Michael Spinks. Despite mounting personal problems, Tyson destroyed Spinks, dropping him twice. The first knockdown was a right hand to the body, and then soon knocked his opponent down again with a vicious left-right combination, ensuring “Iron Mike” retained his three belts. At BFW, we believe this was Tyson at his very best.

Trevor Berbick – Nov. 22, 1986

At the Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, “Iron Mike” created history by becoming the youngest heavyweight world champion at 20 years old. He won the fight in a typically explosive fashion as he destroyed Trevor Berbick in two rounds. Berbick beat the count after the first knockdown – but Tyson was in no mood to let his opponent have a moment to recover as he pounced, unloading a beautifully timed left hook which left the senses of Berbick scrambled as he kept trying to get up, only to full to the canvas again, which led to the fight ending.

Henry Tillman – June 16, 1990

Only a few months previous, Tyson had unbelievably lost to Buster Douglas in a fight that shocked the world. His comeback fight was against Henry Tillman, who had beaten “Iron Mike” twice in the amateurs. It was a brutal KO as Tyson landed a massive overhand right, leaving Tillman in a heap on the canvas.

Tony Tubbs – March 21, 1988

In 1988, Tyson ventured to Tokyo for the first time in his career, facing former WBA world heavyweight champion Tony Tubbs. “TNT” made it through the opening round and started the second positively before Tyson landed a brilliant left hook, which after some stumbling, left Tubbs flat on his back and the fight over.

Tyrell Biggs – October 16, 1987

Tyrell Biggs spoke in the build-up about how he would use his height and reach advantage to defeat Tyson. This hope never came close to happening as “Iron Mike” bossed proceedings throughout landing almost at will with heavy-looking shots. It was again a left hook that left his opponent to make it out of round seven. The post-fight comments were savage and typical of Tyson as he said: “He was doing so much talking that I wanted to make him pay with his health. I don’t want to sound egotistical, but I could have knocked him out in the third round. I wanted to do it slowly. I wanted him to remember this for a long time.”
