Manny Pacquiao back in ring in February?

Legendary “Hall of Fame to be” fighter, Manny Pacquiao, is waiting for his next bout and his possible opponent. And, it appears we’ve gotten a significant clue on “the when” that we will see  Pac-man back.

Pacquiao’s longtime trainer, Freddie Roach, told Fighthype.com on Tuesday afternoon in a video segment that he’s been told to expect for Pacquiao to be back in the ring in February:

“Regardless of who they pick he’s going to be ready,” Roach told the site. “I hope they pick Errol Spence or someone good.

He’ll be back. I believe in February. They’re talking about that but I’m not sure how close they are at getting it. Danny Garcia looks like a good fight.”

Pacquiao was last in the ring in June, when he defeated Keith Thurman by 12 round split decision for the WBA Welterweight Title.

It has been long speculated that Pacquiao’s next fight would be against Spence. This is especially after Spence defeated Shawn Porter by decision in September to gain the WBC’s 147 lbs. title along with his IBF World Championship.

However, just two weeks after the Porter victory, Spence was involved in a spectacular one vehicle car crash in the early morning hours in Dallas, Texas.

Amazingly, Spence escaped serious injury and apparently only had cuts, bruises and reportedly a fractured jaw. This after being thrown from his Porsche as it cartwheeled across the median and into a parking lot of a business.

No one else was involved or injured in the accident. But, Dallas police are charging Spence with misdemeanor DWI, as well.

It’s anyone guess as to how this affects Spence its ability to train and whether he would be ready to fight early next year? There had been reports that Spence would be fighting welterweight contender Danny Garcia, next in January and on Pay-per-View.

Now, the fact that Roach also brought up Garcia’s name in the Fighthype interview indicates Pacquiao’s promoter now, Premier Boxing Champions, may be discussing him as an opponent for Pacquiao next instead of Spence.

This fall Pacquiao has been engaged in the Philippines as a senator working on legislation in his home country. This is something that he has done the last several years since being elected to political office.

There’s also the larger looming question: at 40 years of age, of how many more fights can Pacquiao rise to an elite level and participate in?

As Roach also confirmed, Pacquiao will be back in Los Angeles soon to begin training to fight someone early next year.
