Mayer (21-2, 5 KOs) impressed in Las Vegas, defeating Ryan even more decisively than in their first fight. Speaking afterher victory, the American explained her reasons for agreeing to rematch and what she wants next: “I wanted to give Sandy the rematch because it was a great fight,” she said.
“I believe a rematch should happen when the fans want it.
“We did that, but I beat Sandy twice. Now, it’s time for me to move on and go for undisputed, which is against Lauren Price.”
Lauren Price Discusses Undisputed Clash
Price, despite only having nine professional fights has looked imperious, including last time out against Jonas, who she dominated for the entire fight. Speaking to Sky Sports News, the 2020 Olympic gold medallist responded to Mayer’s post fight interview:
“Let’s get it on,” she said. “I’m obviously unified world champion, and after I beat Jonas, I [said I] wanted the winner of Mayer and Sandy.
“I watched the fight. [It was a] great fight. I thought Mayer won [it] very well. What a fight to make. I’m up for it, a hundred percent.”
An undisputed women’s welterweight fight between Price and Mayer would be a great advert for female boxing. Mayer puts in an unbelievable amount of work and puts together impressive combinations.
Price was brilliant against Jonas, controlling the distance in the fight and showcasing her lightning-quick hand speed. Mayer would need to drag Price into a war because the Welsh fighter looks dominant when she finds her groove.
