‘Don’t duck a fight with me’ – Lamont Roach Jr fires shots at Gervonta Davis

On November 14, at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) and Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) will headline a Most Valuable Promotions fight card live on Netflix.

This controversial exhibition has attracted considerable criticism from many angles, due to the 65lbs weight difference and the rumoured Lamont Roach rematch seemingly being taken off the table. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Roach gave a scathing assessment of Tank’s choices.

Lamont Roach criticises Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis

The first fight between Roach Jr (25-1-2, 10 KOs) and Tank ended in a controversial majority decision draw. Looking back at the fight, Roach Jr out-hussled the WBA champion for much of the bout. Tank controversially took a knee in round nine, which went unpunished during and after the fight.

The rematch was rumoured for some time, but now, with the Davis-Paul fight next, it appears off the table for at least the foreseeable future.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Roach revealed his honest feelings on the failure of his planned rematch against Davis:

“It bothered me at first, but like…and for a very short time, like, obviously, it’s not too much you could do about it, if a guy doesn’t want to fight you.

“But my thing is, just handle the business right. That’s all. Just handle the business right. Don’t think you gonna do bad business with me, and think it’s just gonna be okay. No. We’re gonna call you out every single time.

“Don’t duck a fight with me and fight a YouTuber that’s 200 pounds and think it’s okay. It’s not okay. Unless you took the proper steps to boost it, you could have told me.

“‘All right, look, we’re going to take this Jake Paul fight, or your team could have reached out and been like, ‘All right, look, we’re going to take this Jake Paul fight, and we’ll circle back, or we won’t. We just don’t want to fight.’ It’s cool. All right, but we’re contracted to fight for a certain amount of purse, and whatever the case may be, it don’t work like that. You can’t breach a contract.”

Recently, Lamont Roach Jr spoke to the media, discussing the Gervonta Davis vs Jake Paul exhibition: “He went and took a circus show fight, and you know, he said he was gonna retire. I believe him.”

When asked why Roach believes Jake Paul vs Tank is a circus show fight, he said: “It’s just for s***s and giggles. Jake Paul’s f***ing 200 pounds, and he’s whatever he is, so…”

Roach was also asked if he believes Davis has ducked him: “For sure, you can call a spade a spade, for sure,” said Roach.
