Keyshawn Davis receives high praise from former world champion after Crawford retirement
Terence Crawford’s win over Canelo Alvarez saw the Omaha native on top of the boxing world. His subsequent retirement has left the number one pound-for-pound spot open for many.
Former two-weight world champion Tim Bradley recently spoke on his YouTube channel and named Keyshawn Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) as the fighter with the best chance to get close to Crawford’s achievements.
Keyshawn Davis set to return on Jan. 31 after 2025 troubles
Davis was due to make the first defence of the WBO lightweight title he won impressively against Denys Berinchyk. The Norfolk native was set to face Edwin De Los Santos in his hometown before he missed weight by a huge 4.3lbs, resulting in him being stripped of his world title.
Keyshawn Davis returns to action on January 31 on the Teofimo Lopez–Shakur Stevenson undercard at Madison Square Garden. In various interviews, Davis appears focused, which is a win for the boxing world.
Tim Bradley gives Keyshawn Davis high praise
Reflecting on Crawford’s retirement, and naming the one fighter he believes could reach similar heights to Crawford’s achievements:
“Since Terence Crawford has left and retired from the sport, I think the closest fighter that could – I don’t want to say emulate – but has a damn good chance of at least attempting to do what Crawford did is Keyshawn Davis,” said Bradley.
Detailing the attributes of Davis, but warning that improvements are needed, Bradley said:
“Similar attributes: good power, great boxing ability, hell of an IQ, Olympic silver medallist. Has the intangibles as far as what’s internal. Kid is a killer. He definitely wants to knock you out. He definitely wants to hurt you. He’s got a lot of spite in him. A lot of pent-up pain. I’ll just say he’s got a lot of that in him – I can tell. However, he’s got to get this right mentally.”
There is no doubting the ability Keyshawn Davis has, but he needs to be active and show consistency in his dedication to the sport. If The Businessman can get focused, he is capable of reaching the highest highs in the boxing world.
