Eddie Hearn Delivers Brutally Honest Take On Keyshawn Davis
Keyshawn Davis was set to make the first defence of his WBO lightweight title he won against Denys Berinchyk. The Norfolk native was set to face Edwin De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) in his hometown, before missing weight by 4.3lbs resulting in him being stripped of his world title. Davis has been roundly criticised in the boxing world and Eddie Hearn has weighed in on the controversy when speaking to Fight Hub TV.

Eddie Hearn Reacts To Keyshawn Davis Missing Weight
Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) missing weight stunned the boxing world as did his behaviour immediately after the fight and his promoter Bob Arum was not happy with his fighter, telling Fight Freaks Unite: “You can tell if a guy is trying to make weight & just can’t. You can see that he’s dehydrated. That wasn’t the case with Keyshawn. He never really tried to make 135. That’s my view of what happened.”
When asked by Fight Hub TV about the controversy, Hearn also gave his honest reaction: “Yeah not my fighter, that’s not a good look. I think that it’s not just missing weight, it’s the reaction to it and the behaviour after. Like at that point, you’ve really got to put your arm around the fighter and say ‘Listen, we need to do an interview. Let’s tell people what happened.’
“You’ve got to be disappointed here. You can’t walk around with a smile on your face, laughing and joking. You got all these paying customers. You got a fight that’s now not happened. And you’ve just lost your world championship. You should be devastated. You don’t look devastated.
“And then you’re laughing and joking. You’re scoffing your face at the fight and then you’re having a fight backstage. Like it just got worse and worse and worse. That’s when you need the guidance of someone to say this is the damage control that we’re going to operate through now. But listen, everyone makes mistakes. He’s a good young man, a good fighter, and I’m sure he’ll be back,” Hearn said.

Reacting to missing weight, Davis said: “I outgrew the weight,” Davis said. “I been making this weight for over four years now. I just outgrew the weight. I tried. I was up late last night. I woke up early this morning, trying to make the weight. I just outgrew the weight, man. I was feeling it the last time I was fighting [Denys] Berinchyk. I thank God that I made it. Y’all don’t know how I was feeling making it. But hey, it is what it is.”
