Teraji Records Tough Win Against Cañizales
Teraji entered the fight looking to replicate his successful 2023, which saw him defeat Hekkie Budler by ninth-round TKO.
Teraji started the brighter, but Cañizales showcased his accuracy, hurting his opponent with a left hook to the head. The Japanese fighter caught his opponent with a right hook, sending him stumbling to the canvas. The Venezuelan fighter showed his heart and class as he floored Teraji in the following round with a razor-sharp right hand.
The next few rounds were an absolute war as both fighters visibly hurt each other with a variety of shots. The smarter work was coming from the Japanese fighter, but the power from Cañizales continued to be a live threat, especially towards the end of the rounds.
As the fight moved into the later rounds, both fighters continued to come forward and trade. Cañizales found his opponent with more regularity, but Teraji countered well. The final two rounds saw the Venezuelan fighter continue to be the aggressor as Teraji seemed to tire.
The Judges’ scorecards read 114-112 x 2 and 113-113, giving Teraji the victory by unanimous decision – in what was an absolute war from start to finish, and maybe an early contender for fight of the year?
