Jake Paul gives pessimistic reaction to Terence Crawford retirement

Terence Crawford had been back in the headlines recently after being stripped of his super middleweight title by the WBC, due to non-payment of sanctioning fees, thus losing his undisputed status. Since his historic win over Canelo Alvarez, many had speculated where Crawford would go next, and the unbeaten Omaha native released a video through The Ring Magazine, announcing his retirement from the sport. Jake Paul has reacted to the announcement with pessimism.

In the video announcing his retirement, the unified WBA, WBO, and IBF super middleweight champion began by saying:

“Every fighter know this moment will come. We just never know when. I spent my whole life chasing something. Not belts. Not money. Not headlines. But, the feeling you get when the world doubts you. But you keep showing up. You keep proving everyone wrong. This sport gave me everything. I fought for my family. I fought for my city. I fought for the kid I used to be. The one who had nothing but a dream and a pair of gloves.  And, I did it my way.”

While preparing for his December 19 fight against Anthony Joshua, Jake Paul shared his views on the news of Crawford’s retirement:

“I mean, he’s not retired, bro. You guys have seen this millions of times in boxing. He’s not retired.

“But, he’s got everyone talking about him now because of that. So, smart play by Terence,” said Jake Paul.

Terence Crawford departs on top

Crawford’s career has accelerated in previous years, with high-profile fights against Errol Spence Jr and, more recently, against Canelo Alvarez. He is financially set for life and was recently linked with a rematch with Canelo.

Whether we see the Omaha fighter again remains to be seen. However, his exceptional skill set will ensure his legacy lives on for many generations. Crawford’s ring IQ, switch-hitting ability, and exceptional counterpunching saw him beat a litany of great fighters.
