Jake Paul makes huge promise for Anthony Joshua showdown

Jake Paul stepped out of the ring on December 16 at LIV Night Club in Miami Beach, following just finishing his open workout. The YouTuber-turned-boxer then looked into the camera and made a jaw-dropping promise for the upcoming Netflix mega-fight against Anthony Joshua.

The Problem Child literally vowed to pull off “the biggest upset in sports history” against a fighter who outsized Paul like a grown man standing next to his nephew.

The fight is scheduled to stream on December 19 from the Kaseya Center. The YouTuber enters as a massive underdog against the former two-time unified champion in this heavyweight battle. But confidence isn’t something the 27-year-old lacks.

“One of us is going to sleep. That’s what we’re gonna do here. That’s what this heavyweight fight’s about. All glory to God. Thank you God, thank you Jesus for this moment. I’m so grateful for everybody,” Paul said after his open workout session.

He continued, “I started my boxing journey here in Miami. We’re bringing it back and I’m gonna shock the world and pull off the biggest upset in sports history.”

He has been constantly showing overwhelming confidence since the day Netflix announced the bout. His confidence feels extremely real after all, he holds a 12-1 record as a pro.

But Joshua represents a different beast entirely with his 28-4 record with 25 knockouts. And when it comes to the size comparison, Paul was never a match for AJ.

Only two days left for the boxing community to witness this eighth-round mega boxing bout. Whether Paul can pull off the biggest upset remains to be seen, but both fighters are set to earn massive paydays.

The purse for this fight has generated significant buzz on social media. It was initially reported by the Daily Mail that Paul and Joshua would evenly split a $140 million fight purse. That figure alone would make it one of the biggest paydays in boxing history.

Paul has since claimed on social media that the fight will actually be worth a staggering $267 million, but has provided no evidence to back up that inflated figure. He posted “Stop asking me. $267 Million” on X without further details.

Oriana Morrison, a renowned sports and entertainment accountant, told The Independent about the historical significance of the fight.

“Even if the lower figure – the rumoured $184m purse – is true, AJ could bring home $92 million [£70 million]. We haven’t seen a boxing match with a purse at this level since Mayweather vs Pacquiao in 2015 or even Mayweather vs McGregor in 2017. It’s higher than any Saudi purse to date,” she said.

Whether the final number hits $184 million or Jake Paul’s claimed $267 million, both fighters are getting paid like champions. And Netflix’s global reach, holiday timing, and crossover appeal will create a perfect storm for record-breaking revenue.
