November 14 Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis fight moved to alternate location

An upcoming bout between Jake Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) and Gervonta Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) has moved from its original location in Atlanta.

The November 14 clash that will air on Netflix was originally set to take place at the State Farm Arena. Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) announced via press release and through its social media accounts on Wednesday that Paul-Davis will now take place at the Kaseya Center in Miami, FL. An official explanation as to why the event was moved has not been provided.

Paul and Davis will be in New York City on September 22 and Miami on September 23 to hold press conferences for their bout.

Statements

The MVP press release also included the following statements:

“New city, same mission, seek and destroy the tank,” said Paul. “Kaseya Center. Friday, November 14. I’m bringing the heat, and Miami will see me take down this angry elf while the world watches live on Netflix.”

“Jake Paul has been cherry picking in the sport of boxing for a while now, but he picked the wrong opponent this time,” said Davis. “He better start losing some weight, chasing some chickens, and pray that helps him some on fight night! Thank you to Netflix for giving me the opportunity to whoop this clown!”

“Most Valuable Promotions, together with Netflix, is bringing the most disruptive fight of the year to Miami, and we could not be more thrilled to showcase this blockbuster event at Kaseya Center,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of MVP. “On Friday, November 14, fans in Miami and tens of millions watching globally will witness two of boxing’s most electrifying stars collide in a once-in-a-lifetime showdown. We’re grateful to State Farm Arena and the GAEC [Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission] for their support in this process.”

Why was the fight moved?

Reporting done by Josh Peter of USA Today does shed some light on what has been going on.

Paul-Davis was being advertised as early as August 20. However, the GAEC had yet to approve the bout in any way. The commission is scheduled to meet on September 18 and a discussion regarding Paul-Davis was on the agenda. Despite this, the clash was formally moved to Miami before the GAEC could discuss it at their meeting.

At least one individual affiliated with the commission was opposed to Paul-Davis happening due to the significant weight discrepancy between the fighters, saying they would not sanction it as a professional boxing match or exhibition.

“This is the dumbest [expletive] I’ve ever heard,” said Rick Thompson, chairman of the GAEC, to Peter of USA Today. “It’s a money grabber, and I’m not OK with that.”

The GAEC consists of five members. Votes of approval from three of the members would have been required during their September 18 meeting in order for Paul-Davis to take place. That will no longer be required, however, now with the bout being moved to Miami.
