Bellew Looks at Potential Matchups
The Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5v5 was a memorable event that produced fights full of intrigue such as the back-and-forth clash between Raymond Ford and Nick Ball.
A possible 5v5 between Matchroom and Golden Boy has already caught the imagination of many, including Tony Bellew: “It’s nuts. Yes, I do think it will happen. It makes great TV. It makes great viewing. I’ll just be advising Ed to stay away from the boxing gloves. He doesn’t need that. As he’s said already, everyone’s got a price. But Oscar De La Hoya is a boxing icon, a legend. But the actual card that’s getting put together, it sounds absolutely phenomenal.”
Bellew continued: “I don’t see anyone beating Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis any time soon. No one is beating Jack Catterall at 140. The only person who has a chance of beating him is Teofimo Lopez. I don’t think anyone is beating Shakur Stevenson.”
Golden Boy – Matchroom 5v5 Speculation
The potential matchups suggested by Hearn via his X account were:
- Jaron Ennis vs. Ryan Garcia
- Shakur Stevenson vs. William Zepeda
- Israil Madrimov vs. Vergil Ortiz
- Jai Opetaia vs. Gilberto Ramirez
- Jack Catterall vs. Jose Ramirez
*News has broken today that Jaron Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz could take place on the rumoured Feb. 22 fight card in Riyadh. This would mean two of the proposed matchups from Hearn would change.
*The WBO have ordered Arnold Barboza and Jack Catterall to meet for the mandatory spot for Teofimo Lopez.
