Golden Boy Fight Night Returns On Sept 7

In another edition of Golden Boy Fight Night, Raul Curiel (12-0, 10 KOs) faces Courtney Pennington (17-6-3, 7 KOs) on Thursday, September 7. The bout will be a welterweight clash that takes place at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. DAZN will broadcast the event live around the world.

Promoted by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, Curiel began his professional boxing career in May 2017. He has won all of his fights since then and now returns to the ring for his first fight of 2023. Previously, he stopped Brad Solomon in two rounds on December 17 of last year. Curiel now looks to continue his rise up the rankings with a win over Pennington.

“I am thankful to Golden Boy for scheduling me as the main event,” said Curiel. “I’ll be able to showcase my talent against Courtney Pennington, who I know is tough. I work very hard and I want to challenge the best in the 147-pound division, and I will not be denied!”

Pennington turned pro in August of 2012. His career so far has seen him fight in the United States, Jamaica, Canada, Colombia, and the United Kingdom. Following a stoppage loss to James Metcalf in December last year, he returned to the win column with a split decision victory over James Martin in May. Throughout his career, Pennington has had fights at welterweight, super welterweight, and middleweight. Against Curiel, he returns to the welterweight limit.

Curiel-Pennington undercard

On the undercard, Manuel Flores (15-1, 11 KOs) takes on Jerson Ortiz (17-7, 8 KOs, 1 NC) in a ten-round super bantamweight bout. This will be Flores’ first fight since an upset loss to Walter Santibanes in June this year.

In a super featherweight contest, Leonardo Sanchez (5-0, 4 KOs) faces John Alimane (8-4, 4 KOs) in a six-rounder.

At super bantamweight, Jorge Chavez (7-0, 5 KOs) takes on Marvin Solano (24-10, 8 KOs) in a six-rounder.

Grant Flores (2-0, 2 KOs) faces Jaleik Bogle (4-1-2, 2 KOs) in a six-round super welterweight clash. Manuel Flores and Grant Flores are cousins.

Just days after inking a promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions, Daniel Luna (2-0, 2 KOs) faces Alexander Gutierrez (0-2, 0 KOs) in a four-round lightweight fight.
