Gervonta Davis’ Jailhouse Call, Top Rank’s Brad Goodman And More!
It’s the first recap show of the month of June and we have plenty to discuss off the weekend, including Claressa Shields successfully defending her undisputed middleweight titles on the “Fight Freaks Unite Recap” podcast.
Host T.J. Rives is back with insider Dan Rafael of his Fight Freaks Unite Substack and BigFightWeekend.com to cover all the action in the ring and news outside of it.
First, the guys discuss multi-division world champ Gervonta Davis breaking his silence, via social media, after being taken into custody in Baltimore for violating the terms of his home confinement. Davis seems to be jeopardizing his freedom even after the 90 days are up on his suspended 26 month sentence. There’s a lot to go over and debate.
Then, the attention turns to Shields 10 round decision win over Maricela Cornejo in Detroit Saturday night. Claressa wasn’t challenged again and the boys wonder, whom is out there in the middleweight or super middleweight divisions can really challenger her?

Up next, a great Q & A with Dan and Brad Goodman, matchmaker of Top Rank Boxing, who’s received the ultimate honor of going into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this coming weekend. Dan and Brad have known each other for 30 years and Brad shares how his role has helped dozens and dozens of fighters rise through the ranks with the promotion.
Then, there’s more fight news on Oleksandr Usyk with a new co-promoter, Tim Tszyu recovering from a dog bite, but still intends to fight and Dan has some news on upcoming July bouts involving Jaron “Boots” Ennis and Frank Martin that will be coming soon.
And, there’s even some nostalgia on the anniversary in 2005 of Ricky Hatton kayoing Kostya Tszyu and retiring the hall of famer that night in Manchester, England.
It’s all part of the “Fight Freaks Unite Recap” and make sure to follow/subscribe to the Big Fight Weekend podcast feed on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google, etc.!!
A veteran broadcaster of over 25 years, T.J. has been a fight fan longer than that! He’s the host of the “Big Fight Weekend” podcast and will go “toe to toe” with anyone who thinks that Marvin Hagler beat Sugar Ray Leonard or that Tyson, Lennox Lewis or Deontay Wilder could have beaten Ali!
