Gervonta Davis arrested after two-week search
The life and career of Gervonta Davis has been anything but straightforward. His performances in the ring had been dominating until his controversial draw against Lamont Roach Jr. Outside the ring, controversy has dogged Davis, with numerous domestic violence accusations and a jail term in 2023 after violating the terms of a 90-day house arrest sentence, in relation to a criminal hit-and-run case that occurred in his home city of Baltimore in November 2020.
Miami Gardens Police issued a warrant on January 15, and the search for Davis began. Following a two-week search, Davis has now been apprehended with bail set at $16,000 (£11,500).

The warrant for Davis’ arrest was issued on January 15, relating to an incident in October. The charge for this latest incident consisted of false imprisonment, battery and attempted kidnapping.
Miami law enforcement officials have been trying to locate Davis for two weeks. Miami police released a statement earlier in January, which was damning for Davis, alleging he “grabbed” the victim “by the back of her hair with one hand and by her throat with the other”, before “forcefully” trying to move her.
“Lead detective Gary Florencio obtained and viewed video surveillance footage that corroborates key elements of the victim’s statement,” added the statement.
There is also a further lawsuit, which was filed by Davis’s former girlfriend Courtney Rossel in October 2025. This lawsuit accuses Davis of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Rossel has requested a jury trial, while pursuing punitive damages “of over $50,000” (£38,100).
Another ex-girlfriend dropped a domestic violence case against Davis after deciding not to proceed with the case.
The career of Gervonta Davis
Gervonta Davis is one of the most talented fighters of his generation. His fighting power allows him to be patient in fights and wait for the openings. His abilities have never been in question; it’s his dedication to the sport, which is quite frankly lacking. Lamont Roach Jr executed his game plan well against Davis, but it appeared at times the Baltimore native was mentally somewhere else.
The pattern of his arrests is unsettling, and it raises more than questions about his character. Can Davis get back to the top of boxing, or will the question: “What happened to Gervonta Davis?” become a trivia favourite?
