Gervonta Davis: Details of Arrest
Current WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis was arrested on Friday morning. This arrest came almost one month after he allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend outside her home in Doral, Florida, according to police.
According to the police report, Davis and the alleged victim were in a romantic relationship for four years, and share two children. The alleged incident is said to have happened on June 15.
Davis went to the victim’s home to collect their children, when a verbal altercation between Davis and his ex occurred, which then escalated to the reported physical stage. It was further mentioned that Davis told his ex to remove the kids from his car as he didn’t wish to take them. When his ex obliged and went to retrieve their daughter, she was struck on the back of the head and then slapped in the face, causing a small cut to the inner part of her lip.
The Aftermath and Police Involvement
Police further revealed that the victim’s mother was inside the premises and received a text from her daughter about the assault. Her mother then came outside to see her daughter in distress, arguing with Davis. A part of the altercation was also filmed by the victim’s mother, which showed Davis throw an object at the victim.
As of Friday morning, Davis was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with his bail to be set.
Other Legal Trouble Now For Davis, As Well?
Davis is also still in the final year of a three year probation from his guilty plea in Maryland to hit and run charges, stemming from a November 2020 accident. He was originally given a 90 day home confinement sentence in 2023, but violated that and was taken to the Baltimore jail to serve out over 45 days that remained on the sentence. It will be a fluid situation on whether Maryland authorities would want to return him to jail or not in light of the new arrest?
This all undoubtedly calls into question the rematch with Lamont Roach Jr, which was rumoured for August 16. It seems more will be revealed in the coming days and weeks, but this is anything but a good look for Gervonta “Tank” Davis.
