George Groves names the face of British boxing – with one key caveat

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2 is set for November 15 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This eagerly anticipated rematch will headline a Sela promotions event, in association with Matchroom and Boxxer. Ring Magazine and Riyadh Season will sponsor the event.

As this rematch edges closer, George Groves has spoken to Pundit Arena, revealing his pick for the rematch and declaring that they would then be the face of British boxing.

The first fight between Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) and Eubank Jr (35-3, 25 KOs) on April 26 was a memorable clash, from the hatred-filled build-up through to the actual fight, which exceeded expectations.

Both left it all in the ring as they traded bombs for the full 12 rounds. The cleaner work came from Eubank, who won by unanimous decision, with all three judges’ scorecards reading 116-112.

With the rematch just around the corner and 2026 not too far away, Groves was asked about the face of boxing:

“The face of British boxing, I don’t know, because Nick Ball’s a great fighter, but he’s not a household name. Hamzah Sheeraz, you think he’s going to be a big name in the future. Adam Azim, there was so much hype around him, but that hype has sort of diminished lately.

“You might see him back in action, back to major winning ways. Conor Benn and Eubank Jr… are they the faces of British boxing? They’re the ones that everyone knows about, they’re the ones that are going to have the two biggest fights domestically of the year. It’s probably one of those two, maybe even Conor Benn. If Conor Benn wins in the rematch, which I think he will, then he’s the face of British boxing,” said George Groves.
