Eddie Hearn: ‘Very Unusual for Frank to Make a Mistake Like This’

On June 7 at Portman Road, Ipswich, Fabio Wardley vs Justis Huni will headline a Queensberry Promotions card in association with Matchroom Boxing, Tasman Fighters and Goldstar. The entire card will be shown live on DAZN worldwide. Ahead of this heavyweight clash, both fighters and their respective teams met at a launch press conference where Eddie Hearn revealed his surprise at the fight being made.

Fabio Wardley vs Justis Huni Set for June 7

Deal Called a Mistake by Hearn

Fabio Wardley vs Justis Huni (12-0, 7 KOs) is set for June 7 in Ipswich. It’s a clash of unbeaten heavyweights eager to move towards a world title shot, and the winner of this fight will be well-positioned for a title shot.

Wardley (18-0-1, 17 KOs) has already demonstrated his destructive power at a higher level, most notably with a brutal stoppage win over Frazer Clarke in their rematch. Huni is an agile heavyweight who will look to move and potshot, but does carry his own power. It’s hard to imagine the Australian fighter choosing to stand and trade with Wardley.

“We couldn’t believe it when we got the call. Could not believe it. And that is because Frank, DAZN, everybody, and Fabio – they wanted a real fight, and they’ve got a real fight on June 7.

“When I’m driving home that night, don’t get me wrong, we’ll be over the moon and there will be a new superstar of Australian boxing. But a small part of me will feel that sadness down the A12…because it should have been his night, but that’s just how boxing plays out.”

When reminded by Dev Sahni that Frank is renowned for his great match-making, Eddie responded with his usual vigour:“That’s why I couldn’t believe it, Dev. Frank knows boxing inside out. As they say, He’s forgotten more about boxing than I know. It’s very, very unusual for Frank to make a mistake like this.”
