Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois set for May 9 in Manchester
When this heavyweight showdown was announced, both fighters spoke via a press release, with Wardley saying:
“I’ve never been in this game to play around — I’m committed to big fights only. I’m the champion, this is a voluntary defence, and I chose this.
“I’m not about to win a world title and then take easy fights or hide away with it — I’m not running off with my belt. One thing you can’t ever say about me is I’ve shied away from a challenge. I’ve always gone looking for the biggest tests, and I’d back myself against anyone in this division.
“This is one of the biggest fights that can be made in the heavyweight division right now — and the best part is, it doesn’t need the extra stuff… this fight sells itself. With me, you know what you’re getting — drama and entertainment — and when that first bell goes, it’s going to be fireworks.”
Dubois kept it short, but fired a warning to Wardley:
“On the 9th May the world title reign is over for Fabio, and I will become champion again. Let’s go
Miller questions Dubois and teases late stoppage
Speaking to NewBettingOffers, Miller discussed Dubois’ heart before teasing a stoppage victory for Wardley:
“It’s a 50-50 in my book, and I’ll tell you the reason why. We’ve seen Wardley hurt many times in fights, but he’s durable. He’s mentally strong, he hangs in there, and he’s throwing hard punches to the last round. We know Dubois hits hard and has a really good chin, but mentally, he’s not durable. If his dad doesn’t stay in his ear for those 12 rounds, there are fights where he’s quit, mentally disengaged after getting caught with shots, and kind of given up. So, he’s probably going to start off pretty strong, but if Wardley can hang in there, I’m thinking a late stoppage for Wardley, or an early night win for Dubois,” said Miller.
